First light
The day starts in front of you
The Kaan river valley lies at around 1,100 metres, near the Erongo boundary — rugged mountains, rock and gorges, with ancient camel thorn and anna trees in between. By the time first light comes over the ridge, the horses are already at the waterhole.

Out along the riverbeds
Appaloosa, western saddle, and a guide who explains what lives here and how life works here. The rides follow the riverbeds and climb into the high mountains.
Sun high
The stalk, without a fence
The hunting ground is not fenced. The hunt is on foot, through gorges and over rock. Because no fence decides how a day ends, wind, spoor and patience do. Waterholes, grazing areas and salt licks supplement what nature provides.
Midday
From our own land to the table
Meat, vegetables and fruit come from our own production. Only a few things are bought in — coffee, for instance. That is not a stance for the brochure; it follows from how far away the next supply run is.
Afternoon
A dam that became a pool
The swimming pool is a converted dam with a shaded grotto. On the terrace there is a whirlpool, and in front of it the waterhole and the horses are in view. This is the hour in which the best plan is no plan.
Golden hour
Out while the light holds
A sundowner run into the highland: game watching, then up to a point where the sun disappears behind the ridges. In that hour the landscape changes colour every thirty seconds.

Your host sits at the table
Gerhard Schaffer, host and managing director, takes personal charge of looking after guests and makes himself fully available for an unusually personal experience. The farmhouse comes from another era and has been carefully renovated inside.
Night
In the tent on the rise
The safari tent stands alone in the bush, overlooking the waterholes. If you sleep in the farmhouse, you have 20 or 30 m² in the character of the old building. Either way, at night you hear only what is outside.
